COTAI (Macau, CHN)

Tuesday August 29th, 2017

TODAYS MILEAGE – 19 miles or 31 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 37,086 miles or 59,684 kilometres

With nothing but brilliant sunshine streaming in though the 14th floor panoramic windows of my room at the "The Countdown", I thought "you beauty - it's going to be a great day exploring "Old Town" Macau."

I hopped on one of the many Casino shuttle buses and was dropped me off right in the middle of the "Sé Parish", where the locals were still cleaning up the remnants of Typhoon Hato and Tropical Cyclone Pakhar that had ripped through less than a week ago.

The plan was to spend the rest of the day walking through "São Lourenço Parish", up to "Santo António Parish" and then finishing up back down at "Sé Parish", which is where all the original casino operations kicked off in Macau.

Some of the sights I managed to take in where -

    Church Of St Lawrence
    Lilau Square
    Moorish Barracks
    A-Ma Temple
    Casa do Mandarim
    Dom Pedro V Theatre
    Igreja de Santo Agostinho
    Largo do Senado
    Church of St Dominic
Ruins Of St Paul including The Crypt & The Museum Of Sacred Art
    Grand Lisboa
    Wynn Macau

After a couple of hours in the "São Lourenço Parish", which looked relatively untouched by the typhoon, I decided to sit down in the air conditioning at the "Jason Cafe & Bistro 積臣咖啡" and grab a bite to eat for lunch - a great choice.

Availing myself of unsecured wi-fi services, my own VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection on my phone and "Google Maps", I continued on my self-orientated walking tour of "Old Town", ending up back at my original starting point outside the "Grand Emperor Hotel/Casino" around 4PM.

The return trip took just over ½ an hour due to the frequent stops, but when it's free - you get what you pay for I reckon. As soon as I got into my hotel room, it was straight into a hot bath for a nice long soak, much to appreciation of my sore feet and weary legs.

For my last night in Macau,I decided to eat in the complex at the "Hard Rock Cafe Macau" and to be perfectly honest, it was pretty ordinary at best and as my "Trip Advisor Review" states: Renowned Brand - Poorly Executed.
