Monday August 14th, 2017

TODAYS MILEAGE – 500 miles or 805 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 34,470 miles or 55,474 kilometres

Terracotta Warriors Pit 2 was discovered in May of 1976 and subsequently opened to the public on October 1st, 1994. The most complete and spectacular of the three pits measures 314 feet (96 metres) long, 276 feet (84 metres) wide, 16 feet (5 metres) deep and has just over 1.5 acres (6,000 m²) under roof.

Archaeologists found over 80 war chariots, 1,300 terracotta warriors and horses and thousands of bronze weapons. Interestingly, they also unearthed combat formations that were more complex and complete than the two neighboring pits.

Pit 2 also saw the first discovery of a terracotta general, kneeling archers and the mounted cavalry warrior on a saddle horse.
