Nestled within the lush 24 square kilometre (14 mi²) Maya Site of Copán is the bird sanctuary that is in habited by the brightly coloured Psittacus Macao, which we all know as the scarlet macaw.

The national bird of Honduras is actually a parrot, primarily coloured red, yellow & blue, grows to about 81 centimetres (32 inches) long, has an average weight of 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) and inhabits the humid evergreen forests of tropical south-eastern Mexico, the Peruvian Amazon, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela and Brazil.
