I was kind of curious as to why we'd detour 65 kilometres (40 miles) to go visit a church, but the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba (Mosque of Córdoba) is some kind of something special. It's not often a house of worship makes me go WOW, but this is such a place.
Ground-breaking on the project begun in 784 and completion was in the 16th century. The site measures of 24,000 m² (almost 6 acres) under roof and features as many as 856 aesthetic columns made of marble, granite and jasper, which saw us spending the best part of 4 hours exploring and I don't think we got it all in.
