DAY 41

Week 6

STONE TOWN (Zanzibar - Mjini Magharibi, TZA) to BAGAMOYO (Pwani, TZA)

Wednesday December 21st, 2016

TODAYS MILEAGE – 96 miles or 154 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 18598 miles or 29931 kilometres

We left the Zanzibar Ocean View Resort around 8AM to catch the 9:30AM Azam Ferry service back to the mainland. I ran afoul of the belligerent ferry staff member in the departure lounge as I was standing and he vehemently wanted me seated. Myself and "Grillz" tried explaining to him that I stand in or to relieve some of the pain in my lower back. In the end, I just ignored him and whenever he came past me, I simply turned my back to him. He eventually got the hint and simply left me alone.

We collected "Mr T", "Two Pula" and our truck "Marvin" at the Sleep Inn Hotel - Kariakoo just before lunchtime and was on the road headed to the Travellers Lodge Bagamoyo which, for some unknown reason, took nearly all afternoon.

Unlike the advertised free time on the trip itinerary, we had time enough to set up camp, have a couple of sundowners on the porch of Angela and Karlie's room before it went dark. Most of us ended up in the bar for a couple of "sherbets" before heading off to bed for a 3:30AM start in the morning.

Day 35 - Zanzibar – Bagamoyo
Today we leave Zanzibar early and catch a ferry back to Dar es Salaam and return to our truck. It is a fairly short drive to reach our next destination, Bagamoyo, who’s name goes back to the days of slavery and means “lay down your heart”. We settle into our overnight spot which is situated on the beach. Here you will have the afternoon free to step into the inviting Indian Ocean or laze on the beach and enjoy the timeless views across the ocean. The town of Bagamoyo is a short walk away and you can explore this vibrant town on foot.
